Royal Porcelain Doucai Globular Vase with Interlocking Flowers

Imitation of Doucai globular vase with interlocking flowers from the Yongzheng period, the original in Capital Museum, China. This vase is tall, beautifully shaped, with a white, warm glaze. The neck of the vase is decorated with the Eight Treasures pattern, the abdomen with the twig and chrysanthemum pattern, and the abdomen with the Shoushan and Fuhai patterns, suggesting that longevity is more important than the South Mountain, and the blessing is like the East Sea. The whole pattern is exuberant, detailed and vivid, giving people a lively, prosperous and auspicious sense of beauty, and was mostly used as a birthday gift from the emperor to the empress and concubines, and was a high-grade display item in the Qing Palace.

Tianqiuping (‘Globular’ vase) was created during the Ming dynasty. It is characterized by a small mouth, straight neck, globular body, and slightly concave base. During the Qing dynasty particularly in through the Qianlong period these became court favorites and were made using a wide variety of decorations. Among the wide range of antique Chinese vases this particular form is among the most enduring.
